SSC CHSL: Your Gateway to Government Jobs

SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) recruits for LDC, PA/SA, and DEO posts. With a 12th-pass eligibility, it attracts a massive number of candidates. However, with smart preparation, cracking it in the first attempt is absolutely achievable.

Understanding the Selection Process

CHSL has three tiers: Tier 1 (Computer Based Test - 200 marks, 60 minutes), Tier 2 (Descriptive Paper - Essay and Letter writing, 100 marks), and Tier 3 (Skill Test - Typing/Data Entry). Your Tier 1 score determines if you qualify for Tier 2, and combined scores of Tier 1 and 2 decide final selection.

Tier 1 Strategy: Score 160+ Out of 200

  • English (25 questions): This is your scoring section. Master Spot the Error, Sentence Improvement, and Idioms. Read one editorial daily for comprehension skills. Target 22+ correct answers.
  • General Awareness (25 questions): Study static GK from Lucent's. Focus on History, Polity, and Science. Current affairs of last 6 months are important. Target 18+ correct.
  • Quantitative Aptitude (25 questions): Focus on Arithmetic (Percentage, Profit-Loss, SI/CI, Time-Work). Learn shortcut methods. Practice DI sets. Target 20+ correct.
  • Reasoning (25 questions): Easiest section if practiced well. Focus on Mirror Image, Paper Folding, Series, and Analogy. Target 23+ correct.

Tier 2 Descriptive Paper Tips

Practice essay writing on current topics (250-300 words). Learn letter formats - both formal and informal. Write at least 2 essays and 2 letters daily during the preparation period between Tier 1 and Tier 2. Good handwriting and structured presentation matter.

First Attempt Success Mantra

Start preparation 4 months before the exam. Take one mock test daily in the last month. Analyze every wrong answer. Maintain a formula sheet for quick revision. Do not skip any section - sectional balance is key in CHSL.
