Planning Your NEET Preparation Journey
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the single gateway to MBBS and BDS admissions across India. With over 20 lakh aspirants competing for limited seats, a well-structured timeline is your biggest advantage.
Phase 1: Foundation Building (Months 1-3)
Focus entirely on NCERT textbooks for Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Read each chapter thoroughly and make detailed notes. Biology from NCERT alone covers 90% of NEET questions. Complete Class 11 portions first as they form the base for Class 12 topics.
Phase 2: Concept Strengthening (Months 4-6)
- Biology: Memorize diagrams, processes, and scientific names. Practice MCQs from each chapter. Focus on Human Physiology, Genetics, and Ecology - these carry maximum weightage.
- Physics: Solve numerical problems daily. Focus on Mechanics, Optics, and Modern Physics. Use HC Verma for concept clarity and DC Pandey for practice.
- Chemistry: Divide time equally between Physical, Organic, and Inorganic. Physical Chemistry needs daily numerical practice. Organic Chemistry requires reaction mechanism understanding. Inorganic needs systematic memorization.
Phase 3: Practice and Testing (Months 7-9)
Start taking full-length mock tests twice a week. Solve previous 10 years' NEET papers. Identify weak chapters and dedicate extra time to them. Maintain an error log to track recurring mistakes.
Phase 4: Revision and Fine-tuning (Months 10-12)
Revise NCERT Biology at least 3 times. Focus on high-weightage chapters. Take daily mini-tests of 45 questions. Reduce new learning and maximize revision. Practice time management - 180 questions in 200 minutes means roughly 1 minute per question.
Score Targets
For government medical colleges, aim for 600+ out of 720. For top colleges like AIIMS Delhi, target 680+. Set monthly score improvement targets of 30-40 marks in mock tests.
